i designed my cover letter in the same style i did my portfolio and CV. i chose to used a blocky bold font on the smaller amounts of text and used a smaller less sharp text on the larger blocks of text. i did this to make it nicer to read.
Personal Statement
I am currently studying interactive media and game arts at Plymouth collage of art. In this course I have explored methods of environmental character and special design using both 2 and 3D design. I was taught to using programs such as Photoshop, illustrator, InDesign and other programs.
Your course looks appealing because it gives large amount of creative freedom allowing you to immerse yourself in various different cultures and styles further expanding your creative horizon. As an aspiring designer the course seems perfect in every way, it has a wide variety of interesting elements that will help me improve my skills as a designer.
I have skills in the use of photography, Photoshop, Google sketch up, and woodworking. I have a lot of creativity and drive, as well as a passion for design. In my free time I enjoy playing multiple instruments my favourite being drums. I enjoy sketching designs of products that I think of, I tend to wright down the base idea and sketch them later with different designs that come to mind. My favourite designer is Jonathan Ive head designer of apple, I love his minimalist and slick style as well as his ability to make everything seem innovative and modern. I also enjoy building and rebuilding computers using spare parts I find around the house.
Recently I have had work experience in an architecture firm known as ADG based in Plymouth were I was taught about the methods used in architectural design as well as developing a design for a house. I have also worked in the engineering company composite integrations Saltash were I was taught different methods of construction were I worked with metal and plastics as well as fibre glass. i also helped in the development of some machine parts were I developed a 3D design for a machine part that was later manufactured and used. During my time studying interactive media and game arts we were given a group activity were both the first and second year students were given the task to develop game sprites for Plymouth aquarium, out of all the student my character design was chosen and used by the Plymouth aquarium.
After exploring different areas of the design field by researching and practicing, architecture, engineering and game design I found that out of all of them product design was the one that stood out. I enjoyed being able to think of something and make it reality. I enjoyed all the other fields but after working in the environments, talking to architects and engineers I found that there were too many limitations. I enjoyed game design but I much preferred actually being able to have a solid object after I was finished that I could use and improve on. That is why product design was my best possible choice for it has all the things I enjoy as well as allowing me to stay hands on with the work I am doing.
I think that I am right for this course because I am an aspiring designer with near limitless creativity and drive and I look forward to being able to study the course.
