Concept art is a key component in the creation of a game. It is used as a way of putting an idea on paper giving the game developer a more solid picture of the thing he wants to create. It be used as a foundation to give inspiration for another idea, or further develop the game. Every piece of concept art is designed to inspire, breeding more concept art for more things in the game like environments object characters and even more. Without concept art developers would not have anything to expand on and would make new and original games a lot harder to create.

A good example of how concept art effects media is this. This is one of the earliest concepts for Darth Vader. You can see how the basic idea behind the character was drawn and how it was expanded on to create the Vader we know today.

I drew heavy inspiration from this concept art by Josiah Munsey when developing my concept art. I liked the feeling it gave off as well as the simplistic design of the fox. It was from this that I decided that I wanted my character to be a fox.

When looking for landscape design I found that I liked the style that Journey used. It had bold block colours with cell shading techniques. I liked how the artist had faded out the background and made the things in view a lot bolder.
