About
Álvaro Siza Vieira is a is a Portuguese architect born on the 25th June 1933. He graduated in architecture in 1955, at the former School of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. He released his first building called four houses in Matosinhos before he had even ended his studies in 1955. One of the works that got Siza noticed was a public pool complex named Piscinas de Marés of wich he created in the 1960s.
Style
The recoring theme for his buildings is a minimalist white wash building using an array of cubes and smooth curves to build up a shape. Some of the buildings are tame with a very mathmatical look to them were as others are very abstract with random parts sticking out from the building. He likes to make the houses out of concrete to add to the minimalist look of the house and adds alot of windows to the housing. This is common in modern housing for it helps make the space inside feel more open.

Inspiration
I feel that Siza would have gained inspiration from Fernando Távora for he was one of the proffesors at Sizas' university. You can see the similaritys between their work at a glance. they both hav a smooth and minimalistic style with white wash walls and a very sterile feeling to them.
My opinion
I like the style of Siza and feel that he is a direct influence on the way modern buildings are being designed today. His simple yet elegant designs are some what calming to look at and serve as a great point of inspiration for me.
