3D deconstruction and reconstruction

I looked at existing objects from around the workshop and deconstructed them into raw shapes then rearranged them to create a random 2D shape. From this 2D shape I created a 3D object using the deconstructed shape as inspiration. I chose to deconstruct a padlock and a vice.

Vice- When I deconstructed the Vice I found that I used the handle in almost all of the reconstructions.I think this is because I liked the look of it as a centre piece of the drawings. I also found that the vast majority of my reconstructions were symmetrical and followed a similar theme and design.
Padlock- Unlike when I looked at the vice I found that most of my designs were not symmetrical and often followed an abstract style unlike the very industrial look of the vice redesigns. There did not seem to be a recurring pattern to my padlock redesigns and in my opinion each one was very unique.

Out of all of the sketches I made I chose the padlock design numbered as 1. I chose this one because I saw the most potential. It reminded me of a Japanese architecture so I started making my models with an architecture theme in mind. After a couple of iterations I made one model the particularly resonated with me. I like the mixture of smooth curves with shard edges and expanded on that ideal. From that expansion I found that I was design what could be a bus stop, I liked this idea so decided that it would be a bus stop. The finished models somewhat abandoned the traditional Japanese architecture theme and ended up looking like a more modern approach but still kept the core concept of the 2D image.
