Shayna Leib- Wind and water.

I like this piece, the use of light helps to bring out the depth of the piece and makes it look like an actual ocean wave crashing against the shore. The effect that the fibre optics give with the light refracting out the end of each tube gives it a nice glisten and the use of colour looks rely natural and fades in with the background very well.

K. William LeQuie

This piece was also inspired by the ocean. I like how it looks some what dissected at the end were as the start looks like a more traditional wave. I also like the subtle blues but that white is the main focus of the sculpture. The sculpture looks like a man made feat of nature with the some what thread like look of the wave. I feel that rather than having the illusion of motion the sculpture gives the feeling of it being suspended and held in position. I like this sculpture mainly for this and feel that it has a very unique take on the flow of water.

Jack Storm- Bevled Cube

I really like this piece because of how simple the object is but how complex it is at the same time. The use of light gives a sunning effect. It kind of looks infinite were each reflection reflects another giving the piece a never ending feeling of depth. The rainbow effect adds to the piece having it change with each angle making it a very unique sculpture because it will change every time you look at it.

Pattern welding

Pattern welding is not an individual piece but a technique all with its own unique style and finish but I felt that the technique produced results that were so nice that I was unable to choose a single piece to talk about. The main style of pattern welding I decided to focus on was the traditional Scandinavian style practised by the vikings. The favoured pattern among vikings was the two inverted twist which gave a nice cross hatched pattern that I really like to me it almost looks like the metal is still molten and flowing showing the raw forging methods used on the blade. My other favourite thing about pattern welding is that every version will be unique in its own making it impossible to mass produce a single piece. You can get similar but never identical which i thoroughly enjoy the concept of.

antoine pevsner- Maquette of a Monument

I like this sculpture, I feel that the different layers of wire helps give it a unique feeling of depth. The piece is supposed to signify the liberation of spirit which I can somewhat see for it does somewhat look like everything is expanding from the centre piece that is highlighted with the colour gold that has always been considered a very spiritual colour hence its use in a lot of religious artifacts. I feel that the use of wire layered and crossing over each other gives off quite a mesmerising effect of shade and adds a somewhat 4D element to the sculpture.

My favourite part of this sculpture has to be the look of expansion coming from the centre and how it is both symmetrical but at the same time not for even if your at the slightest of angles the wires will change in the way they overlap making the sculpture highly interactive in the way you look at it.

Anish Kapoor- Cloud gate

Cloud gate is extremely unique to me. It seems to draw in the environment around it making where it is placed a design feature. It is this unique use of the environment that I like the most about it and I feel that it has not been expanded on enough in other sculptures or products, the shape makes it look like some sort of distortion of reality and could if used correctly work really well in some product designs like furniture. I also liked the placement of lights under the sculpture. The shape of the bottom helps to make the lights part of the design.

Ann Linnemann

I extremely like this teapot design. It really is like nothing I have ever seen before. I feel that it took inspiration from traditional Japanese tea sets and the use of the bamboo handle has been flawlessly executed. I feel that the contrast in colours works extremely well and the mixed medias of wood and the hand spun ceramic works extremely well giving it a relaxing natural feel to the pot. I feel that the style is somehow both contemporary and traditional at the same time and would work design wise in every home. I feel that the imperfections make the design as well, all the little nicks and the rough style of the handle all adds together to give the product character showing how it is unique and unlike anything else.

Ray Macro- Pair wall lights

when I look at these lights I see something from a fantasy game but with a modern twist. The design of these lamps is some how both minimalist yet still complex. The natural waves of the tree design and the use of negative space is done flawlessly. The simple shape with the complex central pattern really bring out the design and all the little details like the small bevels along each branch make the lamps look amazing. I feel that it has a modern design but unlike most modern style products it has still managed to hold onto its soul and shows the thought and care the maker put into it. I am not too sure if it is the picture or the firing technique but I am a little bit iffy about the colour. I feel that the pale blue does not exactly suit the style of the work and some what overpowers the subtle and warm lighting used in the photo, other than that I think the design is flawless and would love to attempt to craft something similar to this.

Leanne Berelowitz- Dense Living

http://www.leanneberelowitz.com/p/classes.html

When looking at this artist I scrolled past her at first glance for I was looking for a ceramics artist and when looking at some of her works I thought she used metals but when reading on a little further I found that she uses a metallic glaze with terracotta that gives her ceramics a metallic look. I found this really interesting and am extremely curious as to find out how she did it and what glazes she had used. The design itself reminds me of quite a natural shape but the gold really contrasts with that for the natural design is somewhat colliding with the industrial metal colours. I like this clash of styles and feel that It somewhat looks as if someone has encased natural movement in metal. I really like the capture of motion and would really like to attempt it in some of my designs
