Fountain

When drawing the fountain I noticed that it had a severe lack of rounded edges, being mainly made up of strait lines aligned to make a curve. I liked this feature and felt that i could experiment with it. One of the main points that I liked was at the very top were I have marked the area as one.
I liked the contrast in shape at the top with the very top being the only area with a smooth curve. I liked how the octagonal shape at the base held the tube inside and felt that this could breed some interesting design mechanics. The other area that I liked was the area sectioned as two. I felt that this area gave a feeling of motion to the shape as well as giving it a bit more substance with out it being overwhelming.
As well as these points there were a few other features in the shape that i enjoyed. I liked the steady build up and how the dimensions stagger as you go up the shape. I also liked the way the shadow had shaped around the shape. It almost wraps around it and projecting a polar image of the shape onto the ground.
Fence

When drawing the fence there was a similar theme to that of the fountain, that being there is a lack of sounded edges and that the entire area is very urban esc and as little to no natural themes but I feel this works well and contrasts with the environment that it has been placed in. I feel the area works In a Yin Yang sort of style and that the two half's make a whole.
There was not really that much that I liked about the fence. I somewhat liked the centre and how It crossed over the middle diamond but other than that I found it to be quite bland. There wasn't much shape wise that caught my eye it was all very linear and dull. I some what liked the controlled shaping and how it is the perfect example of the yin yang theme for it could not be further from a natural design.
Wave

Drawing the Waves was by far my favourite. I found that the large amount of variety it gave along with the natural shapes gave me an abundance of inspiration for future designs. I looked at the base shapes of the waves trying to capture the base form of movement then proceeded to draw with more detail. I did find it difficult to draw an actual moving object but found the effort was worth the pay off.
I particularly liked the edges of the waves. The random yet controlled textures at the tips of the waves although small were still filled with such large amounts of detail. I liked its steady progression from a controlled and linear shape to an almost destructive and erratic shape. The contrast between chaos and order was really apparent and I plan on taking this and using it in more of my designs.
The texture that was given at the start portion of the wave was one of my favourite parts I especially liked the texture it gave and the way that it reflected light helped give it depth. and a 3D element in a 2D field that I would like to integrate into more of my designs for I have always struggled to visualise textures and would like to improve in this area.
The Gherkin

I later went back to drawing from life and decided to draw something more urban. I decided on drawing the Gherkin while I was in London. Due to me being short on time and simply rushing the drawing while I was waiting for my friend the drawing is fairly rushed and crude but I feel like I captured the basic essence of the building
I found that when looking at this building in depth It has the illusion of curvature but has no curved edges. The entire thing has been designed in a polygonal format that by using large amounts of triangles gives the illusion of curves all the while not having them. I would quite like to incorporate this polygonal aspect into one of my designs. I also found that I personified the building for when looking at It I could not stop thinking that is a penguin. I am not sure If this is an intentional feature of the building or a coincidence but I found it amusing.
