Polygon Penguin

I designed this penguin while I was at London during Christmas. I got this design idea form the gherkin building for when I was looking at it my friend said it looked like a penguin and with that I quickly sketched the building then after drew the penguin design. These sketches were very quick and in the moment which I felt made them better for it captured the image I had at the moment of inspiration keeping the soul of the design intact. I plan on drawing like this more often.

Coiling Pots

My coiling pot designs were not really based on any inspirational piece it was more of a heat of the moment type of design. I feel that designing things in this way is viable for when you need quick results but I feel that spending longer on the design would give better results when crafting. I did like the silhouette design style and it was effective I just felt that something was missing and that it could be expanded on further.

Metal Cutouts

These were my designs for my metal cutouts. My main inspiration came from my wave drawings and I chose to transfer that onto my metal designs. I started with my wave sketches, I was not sure what I was aiming for as a finished product with theses designs I was somewhat torn between a necklace or keeping them sculptural but felt that either would be acceptable. After doing the wave designs I looked at my other sketch of the brick fence and found I liked the abstract shapes that were on it and it was with this that I decided to take aspects from this and transfer it into my design. There was not much that I liked about the abstract designs, none of it really stood out to me but I still wanted to experiment with it. I also tried to draw some animals but found it difficult to get a design I actually like and decided to scrap the idea.

Press forming

When designing my press forming dies my main inspiration came from cartoons the main two being Pokemon and Avatar, the others were just abstract shapes. A couple of designs I had to rethink for I doubt that they would be effective when used in the press forming process for it would be either too weak or would just not work. My favourite design was the one that was based on Avatar and that is the one that I intend on using.

3D glass sculpture

For my initial design I once again took inspiration from the waves I drew while life drawing and decided to use the base shape as well as the glass working techniques I had picked up in order to make a wave with different layers of glass. I liked the thought of this and felt that if done correctly it could give some very nice results. However as I worked with the glass I ended up breaking a lot of pieces and decided to scrap the wave idea and revisit it late. Once I had started my designing again I used the inspiration I had gained from the broken pieces of glass and had decided to implement this into my design. I had decided that I would either curve the glass into a cylinder or simply layer the glass on top of one another these were my two main designs and the ones that I wish to expand on.

These are sketch up models I made while planning to make the glass sculpture. I had made these while not fully aware of what I was doing or how I was doing it making them not practical for the task I had been set but I felt that they were worth showing. They were designed with the base shapes of the fountain life drawing in mind and I had took and expanded on the base shape making patterns with the different lines and raising them to give interesting effects. I did like some of the shapes this made and would like to use it again at some point.
